Nam Dan Ancient Stone
Nam Dan ancient stone bank relic belongs to Nam Dan hamlet, Nam Dan commune, Xin Man district. In local Nung language, Nam Dan means water source. There have been found 7 anciently-carved stone boards and 2 giant stone relics with the date of 2000 years. Al the location called Na Lai Shu syllable field in 2004, Ha Giang Institute of Archeology and Ha Giang Museum coordinated to make an archeological survey in Xin Man.
Since then they found several carved stone blocks. Researchers temporarily divided these blocks into 7 groups: circle, rectangle, square-shaped with main patterns: circle and square pattern group: parallel carving line group; reproduction force symbol group, which is mainly female vitality by a triangle with a split at the middle: foot symbol group with real dimension, toes are carved into the stone: human form group with manner of hand raising, leg spreading like ancient wall paintings, unidentified group. Besides 79 carves, there are about 80 slots on stone surface with average diameter of 5-6cm depth of 1-2 cm, positing at western head of the stone.
According to researchers, giant stone relic of Nam Dan can relate to Stone God worshiping of the prehistoric men. Nam Dan ancient stone bank is a relic paid much attention by experts thanks to its high scientific research value because it is rarely encroached by modern people. It is totally preserved in primitive state. Nam Dan ancient stone bank with symbolic carves is the artistry creation of prehistoric men. In 2008, it is recognized as national archeological relic by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
